Fire Suppression
To further protect your business critical systems, Gem has installed an FCI fire control system. This system is regularly inspected and monitored 24x7 by SimplexGrinnell. It is a pre-action fire suppression system designed for telecommunication centers such the CityNAP. Our facility is protected with a dual alarmed, three stage, multi-zoned dry-pipe, water based fire suppression system. Our 3 stage state-of-the-art system has multiple sensory mechanisms to trigger alarms before pressurization.
In order to activate the fire suppression systems, a series of cross linked events must occur. Multiple wall mounted and ceiling mounted sensors are located throughout the facility. If one sensor is tripped, all of the alarms go off throughout the building and the air conditioners shut down so smoke is not carried throughout the building. The fire department is automatically alerted will immediately respond. In several unscheduled tests the local fire department has responded on-site within 5 minutes of alarm activation.
If a second sensor is trigged, then the fire suppression pipes fill with water. Finally, if a sprinkler head reaches 140 degrees Fahrenheit, the sprinkler will be activated, but only in that particular zone.
This series is intended to give us time to activate our on site personnel and extinguish any fire in advance of sprinkler activation. Manual fire extinguishers are located throughout the building just for this purpose.
